Welcome to JJ Astor ( located on the 16th floor of the Radisson Hotel Duluth), where guests enjoy welcoming service, inspired décor, modern approachability, unparalleled views, and signature dishes.
Executive Chef, Ryan Zander, has created a contemporary menu utilizing sustainable produce from local farmers and fresh fish from local fishermen for menu offerings such as Fresh Catch of the Day.
Whether settling into the oversized armchairs in the lounge, or admiring the view from the inviting sofa style banquettes, the restaurant provides a memorable dining experience for locals and visitors alike.
Authentic portraits, blueprints, and photography from Duluth’s past adorn the teak panels located throughout the restaurant. While the most stunning view is undoubtedly the view of Lake Superior, the interiors also paint a captivating picture of their own. Appointed with vibrant pops of color and pattern, alongside an array of worldly treasures, guests are encouraged to both explore and relax.
All of this is delivered in the spirit of world traveling magnates like John Jacob Astor.
German immigrant, John Jacob Astor was an American treasure. His humble beginnings, innovation, ambition, world-travels, and determination contributed to his success and inspired the American Dream. His journey started with a store at the fur-trading outpost of Fond du Lac on the St. Louis River. Astor used his profits from fur trading to invest in a wide range of business enterprises. By the time of his death in 1848, he was the most prosperous man in America.
John Jacob Astor’s trading ship “The Astor” was used extensively to serve the early outposts around Lake Superior. Built by the American Fur Trading Company to replace the early French and British ships, the Astor brought many miners and missionaries to the Lake Superior region, as she was the first American commercial vessel to sail Lake Superior.
